Domaine de Saint Siffrein Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2015

Domaine de Saint Siffrein is a family estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, run by the Chastan family and rooted in the older mixed-vineyard tradition of the southern Rhône. The domaine achieved organic certification in 2012, after years of work in vineyards planted to the classic red grapes of the appellation: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. Its red Châteauneuf-du-Pape comes from vines averaging about sixty years of age, with Grenache carrying the blend and Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault giving darker fruit, tannin, spice, and aromatic lift. The estate’s work depends on old vines, organic farming, and cellar choices that preserve the ripe fruit and herbal depth of the place without covering them with overt oak.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape sits north of Avignon in the southern Rhône, where Mediterranean heat, the mistral, low rainfall, and stony soils produce red wines with ripe fruit, elevated alcohol, firm tannin, and savory herbal character. The appellation is famous for galets roulés, the large rounded stones that absorb heat during the day
